Kangaroo Room (4–5 years)

The Kangaroo Room is a dynamic and inspiring environment where children are supported to step confidently into their final year before school. At this stage, children are developing strong identities as learners—curious, capable, and eager to take on new challenges—and our program is designed to extend their thinking, independence, and sense of responsibility.

Our team includes two Early Childhood Teachers, four Diploma-qualified educators, one educator working towards her Early Childhood Teaching degree, and a dedicated trainee. This highly skilled and collaborative team brings a depth of knowledge and experience, ensuring children are supported through intentional teaching, meaningful relationships, and responsive practice.

Children engage in a rich and balanced program that weaves together play-based learning, intentional teaching, and project work. Experiences are designed to challenge thinking, encourage problem-solving, and support children to express ideas, negotiate with others, and take increasing ownership of their learning.

Our school readiness program is thoughtfully embedded throughout the day, supporting children to develop the skills they need for a confident and successful transition to school. Early literacy and numeracy are naturally integrated into play and group experiences, alongside a strong focus on emotional confidence, self-regulation, communication, and the ability to participate in group learning.

Social development is a key focus within the Kangaroo Room. Through open-ended play, collaborative projects, and guided interactions, children learn to build friendships, resolve conflicts, and develop resilience. These experiences support children to understand themselves and others, forming the foundation for positive relationships in school and beyond.

The environment is designed to inspire creativity, independence, and exploration. Children have access to a variety of interconnected learning spaces, including construction areas, imaginative play spaces, quiet reflection zones, and an inviting art space where they can experiment with materials and express their ideas creatively. We also incorporate the use of a smartboard as a learning tool, supporting group discussions, interactive learning experiences, and the development of early digital literacy in a purposeful and balanced way.

Our purpose-built outdoor environment provides opportunities for children to engage with nature, take on physical challenges, and participate in group play. Children are also involved in caring for our preschool chickens, fostering a sense of responsibility, empathy, and connection to the natural world.

Developing independence and self-help skills is embedded in everyday routines. Children are supported to manage their belongings, contribute to their environment, and take increasing responsibility for their learning, building confidence as they prepare for the transition to school.

The Kangaroo Room is a place where children are encouraged to think deeply, create freely, and connect meaningfully—leaving with the confidence, skills, and enthusiasm to begin their school journey.
